I have to admit that though Autumn is my favorites season, Spring is is a very close second. With 'Spring Like' weather poking between snowy flurries, it is a sure sign that warmer weather is on its way. With warmer weather that means some things for us a youth group. We can have games outside again! We can also have some fun outside events.
Spring reminds me of a fresh start. The dormant grass coming back to life. The trees growing back their leaves. And though I have not seen one yet, I have heard Robins singing as they are now finding there ways back to us. It is the rebirth of nature. All things are new. The way things return to remind us of what they once looked like. It is amazing what smells, sights and sounds the mind can retain without us consciously thinking of them at all. All it takes is a single whiff of dandelions and I am eight years old again and I can feel my bare feet kicking through the cool breeze on a summers day as I pump my legs out an in on the swing set in our back yard. All it takes is the sight of kids on their bikes and I remember my buddies and I exploring one road further on our own bikes. I remember the day I got my new bike and I was sure that I would use it every day for the rest of my life because there was nothing quite as cool as a green mountain bike with grip shifting and real mountain bike handle bars.
One thing that spring also reminds me of is the new life that can be found in Christ. Christ changes us much like he changes the landscape of the earth with the change in seasons. He takes our sin upon himself and gives us His Righteousness. God saves us through the soul warming work of His Word, allowing beautiful fruit now to grow in the rich soil of his work in us. God gives us his Spirit to guide us as he guides the Robin back from the warm south. God puts his praise in my mouth as he puts the songs of thousands of birds upon their beaks.
Spring is a time for new life all around us in God's creation. I pray that God may bring new spiritual life to us as a youth group.
God Bless,
David
